Created in 1995, A Contretemps brings together about forty experienced amateur singers who wish to develop a rich and varied range, from ancient music to contemporary. Chosen by audition, choir members are also asked to pursue personal training in vocal technique. The choir has a particular interest in the music of the 19th and 20th centuries and in all forms of demanding polyphonic vocal music. The choir is often invited to participate in major vocal events in the region and regularly collaborates with the baroque orchestra “Les Passions” (directed by Jen-Marc Andrieu) as well as the Baroque Ensemble of Toulouse (directed by Michel Brun). A Contretemps notably performed the Fauré Requiem for a tour in Catalonia, from Perpignan to Barcelona, in the spring of 2010.
